Licence Terms
Last updated: 2026-07-28
These terms cover the licence to use DeviceShelf and the software itself. They are not a contract of sale — DeviceShelf licences are sold by Polar as our Merchant of Record. Section 2 explains which of us is responsible for what.
1. License grant & updates
A DeviceShelf licence is a one-time purchase. It grants you a perpetual, non-transferable right to use the version of DeviceShelf you purchased — this right does not expire, and there is no subscription.
Your purchase includes all updates within the same major version: if you buy DeviceShelf 1.x, every 1.x update (bug fixes, improvements and new features released as 1.1, 1.2, …) is included at no extra cost.
A future major version (for example 2.0) may be offered as a separate, optional paid upgrade. Upgrading is never required — you may keep using your purchased version for as long as you wish.
One licence covers one registered user. The licence is personal to the buyer and bound to the email address used at checkout. It may not be shared between multiple people, resold or transferred without our written consent. That registered user may install and activate DeviceShelf on an unlimited number of their own devices.
DeviceShelf is available on macOS, Windows and Linux, on iOS via the App Store and on Android as a direct download. All of them are covered by the same licence for the same registered user. A 7-day free trial is available before purchase.
2. Purchase, payment and invoicing
DeviceShelf licences are sold through Polar, acting as our Merchant of Record and authorised reseller. Your purchase contract for the transaction is with Polar. The right to use the software is granted by us, under the licence terms on this page.
Polar handles checkout, payment, invoicing, VAT and sales tax, chargebacks and the processing of refunds. For anything about the transaction itself — an invoice, a payment method, a tax question, a chargeback — Polar's buyer terms apply and Polar is the right place to ask. Anything about the software — activation, updates, support, defects, and how the app handles your data — is ours.
3. Refunds
14 days, no questions asked, on top of the 7-day free trial. Write to support@deviceshelf.app and we will approve it; the refund itself is issued by Polar as Merchant of Record, back to the payment method you used.
Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected by this. Where the law of your country of residence gives you a right of withdrawal or similar rights in respect of the purchase, those rights exist alongside the guarantee above and are set out in Polar's buyer terms.
4. Acceptable use
DeviceShelf scans the local network the device is connected to. You may only scan networks that you own or are authorised to scan. You are responsible for complying with all applicable laws and with the policies of any network you scan. DeviceShelf is a diagnostic and security-audit tool, not a tool for unauthorised access.
5. Warranty & liability
DeviceShelf is provided "as is". We do not warrant that the software is error-free or that its device identification and security findings are complete or accurate.
We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and wherever mandatory law imposes liability regardless of fault.
For simple negligence we are liable only where we breach an obligation that is essential to the purpose of this licence and on whose fulfilment you may reasonably rely. In that case our liability is limited to the damage that is foreseeable and typical for a contract of this kind.
Any further liability is excluded. Mandatory statutory rights, in particular under consumer protection and product liability law, are unaffected.
6. Governing law and jurisdiction
Swiss law applies, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection afforded by mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you have your habitual residence.
For business customers, the place of jurisdiction is Kreuzlingen, Thurgau, Switzerland. If you are a consumer, you may bring proceedings before the courts of your place of residence, and we may bring proceedings against you only there.
